this July 2005
Faber Product Release:
Faber 2.0
Faber 2.0 is the suite of modeling and simulation tools
that allows you to quickly design complex discrete event-driven systems and
start you simulations. It consists of the following new products.
Faber Project Manager
This is the main tool that manages the Faber project and
starts all the other tools. A Faber project is a collection of Faber units which
file is stored in the directory structure of the project. A Faber project may
use other projects: their units are seen by the models of the current project.
Main features:
- Many Faber projects may be open simultaneously.
- Projects may be easily exchanged with other developers,
using the archive and import utility wizards.
- Faber units are clearly organized in a tree structure,
grouped by type.
- Both projects and units may be created through wizards,
which guide you in collecting the needed information.
- Faber units may be imported from other Faber projects.
- For each Faber unit you can see the “uses” and “used
by” dependencies tree with the other units.
Faber Model Manager
This tool is designated to manage the Faber model, that
represents the system to be modeled. The Faber model is a subset of Faber
project units connected through “uses” and “used by” relationships. All
these dependencies start from an Artifex class unit defined as the top-level of
the model. The sections of the Faber Model Manager window represent the main
operations you can do with a model, in particular:
- validating the model, i.e. graphically debugging the model
behavior
- simulating the model, specifying the simulation parameters
- creating a single-process executable (emulator) of the
model
- creating a distributed application of the model
Faber Parameter Editor
It is the tool that manages the simulation parameters in
order to creates different scenarios to simulate the Faber model. Main features:
- Instance tree of all the classes that have parameters or
measures to set up for the simulations.
- Classes that generate multiple runs are highlighted in the
tree.
- Class measurements may be enabled or disabled in order to
focalize the simulation results.
Faber Data Modeler
This tool (already present in the previous version) creates
entity-relationship models to adds extended data management capabilities to the
Faber models. A new feature has been added in this new version:
All the description sections of all elements of the Faber
Data model may be collected and organized in a single HTML printable document.
Artifex Integration and Compatibility
The new abovementioned Faber tools are fully compatible and
integrate the other products of the Artifex
Product Family. All the Artifex projects and models can be
automatically used by Faber 2.0, which enriches usability and productivity.
Supported Platforms
All Faber Software products are supported on Windows
XP/2000, Linux RedHat and Sun Sparc Solaris.
